FAQs

How accurate are golf GPS watches compared to laser rangefinders?

Golf GPS watches are very accurate, but they are generally slightly less precise than laser rangefinders. A laser rangefinder works by measuring the exact distance to a specific target using a laser beam, which means it can provide readings within about one yard.

GPS watches, on the other hand, use satellite positioning and preloaded course maps to calculate distances. Most modern models are still highly reliable and often accurate within a few yards. This level of accuracy is more than enough for the majority of golfers, especially beginners and mid-handicap players. The main difference comes down to what is being measured. A GPS watch usually shows distances to the front, middle, and back of the green rather than the exact pin location.
